Toners Be Gone! Botox for Smaller Pores

You all know Botox. It’s a derivative of the botulinum toxin specifically created to smoothen out skin by killing it. No, that doesn’t mean that your skin will start rotting; it will only become unresponsive to damage from ultraviolet rays and collagen loss, hence preserving your skin’s youthful glow. There are a number of spa treatments that use Botox. Aside from being used in wrinkle removal, Botox also lessens excessive sweating in the hands, underarms and feet. The most recent discovery? Botox for reducing large pores.

The most popular way of reducing pores is to use toners. There are also skin treatments that promise to reduce the size of pores, but these treatments are often costly and their effect is limited. Toners tighten the skin by drying it out and by sloughing off the top layer of your skin, making your face look smooth and clear. As soon as you start sweating, though, your pores reappear.

Big pores are usually found on the nose and forehead. Both men and women have it. Men are especially prone to have big pores because they have more oil glands on their faces. Women who have extremely oily skin also tend to have deep or big pores. Skin care for big pores mainly takes care of the source: oily skin. In most cases, taking out the oil physically (through the use of solutions and scrubs) is not enough. It is extremely difficult to treat. Spa treatments for this include lasers, microdermabrasion and other chemical peels. These are temporary skin treatments, though, and you need to get them regularly. Some topical medications work for some people, but these will require you to put it on daily.

Botox works for treating large pores because it blocks the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that controls sweating and the production of oil in all parts of your body. If you inject Botox into your skin, it will stop producing oil. In effect, you get smaller pores. It works better than other spa treatments in the market. It is also more effective and lasts longer than other procedures. However, it is also more expensive than other skin care products or treatments.

Botox may not really appeal to men (who need pore reduction) because it is marketed mainly to women. However, studies show that this kind of treatment works for men, too. Perhaps it is just another reason for men to give Botox a shot.
